Cats need to scratch. Instinctively, cats scratch to mark their territory. Scented glands in their feet deposit this scent while scratching and claiming the area as their own. Visual scratch marks can act as a deterrent for other cats. Cats also scratch to remove old claw husks to keep their nails sharp. Scratching and clawing are also ways for Luna to exercise and stretch her leg muscles.
